Bezuidenhout bounds to Leopard Creek Glory
Christiaan Bezuidenhout wrote another chapter in his remarkable golfing story as he carded a closing 69 to claim a four-shot victory at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
Bezuidenhout finished with a 69 to win on 14 under par overall, four shots clear of overnight leader Adrian Meronk and another three players tied for second at Leopard Creek Country Club.
It didn't look on for home player Bezuidenhout at the turn after he made a double bogey at No. 7 and a bogey at No. 8. But a stunning back nine, which included picking up three birdies and avoiding any more dropped shots helped Christiaan claim his second win of 2020.
The Alfred Dunhill Championship has a long history of home winners but Bezuidenhout is the first South African to take the title since 2016.
''This tournament has been close to my heart since I played it for the first time,'' he said. ''It's always been a tournament I wanted to win and to pull it off today is really, really special to me.''
Christiaan moves to a career high 41st in the world rankings and the win follows his maiden tour victory at the Andalucía Masters at Valderrama in 2019.
Christiaan competes next week in the final event of the South African swing at the historic South African Open at Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, an event that started in 1903 and is the second-oldest national golf championship — after the British Open.
